A Springfield man is in the Greene County Jail charged with child sex crimes after police stopped the duo inside a car on a traffic stop.
Brett Alexander Tooley, 20, is facing charges of statutory rape of a child under 14, and two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree of a child under 14.
According to the probable cause statement, police conducted a traffic stop of a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero on December 4 and found Tooley intoxicated while operating the vehicle. Inside the car was a 13-year-old girl who was also intoxicated. When the girl’s mother was contacted, the mother insisted she be taken for an examination at a local hospital and that’s when the girl admitted having sex with Tooley in a Springfield residence.
Tooley was questioned at the Greene County Jail and admitted after being read his rights that he had sex with the girl after the two smoked marijuana and drank liquor. He said the two had met on the social media app Snapchat and that the girl claimed to be 20-years-old. Tooley claimed the girl contacted him on December 4 through the app, stating she was “drunk” and needed a ride.
Tooley told police after meeting that he could tell the girl was not 20, but said that “he believed she was possibly 18 years of age.”
Tooley could face five years to life in prison on each count.
