The Springfield-Greene County Park Board has released a list of family activities and events through the holiday season.
Dec. 5-28: Gardens Aglow
Enjoy a serene evening stroll through Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden, sparkling with festive lights, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only, 5-8:30 p.m. Campfires and hot cocoa available to keep you warm. Limited wheelchairs available. Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Admission is $5/adult, free/children 12 and under, and current Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association members.
Dec. 6-22: Candy Cane Lane at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park
Drive through the Farm Park and enjoy dazzling farm-themed holiday displays and more than 10,000 lights. Candy Cane Lane runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings only, 5-8 p.m. Admission is $5/vehicle, hot cocoa available to purchase.
Dec. 7: Christmas at the Farmstead at Springfield Botanical Gardens
Join volunteers at the Gray/Campbell Farmstead to celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas. Decorate the tree with hand-made vintage ornaments and enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and carols. Saturday, Dec. 7, 1-3 p.m. at Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Admission is free.
Dec. 7, 21 and 25: Festival of Lights Free Ice Skating
Enjoy free ice skating at Jordan Valley Ice Park as part of the Festival of Lights. Free admission, $3/skate rental. Saturday, Dec. 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m.; Saturday,Dec. 21, 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and Christmas Day, 5-6 p.m. Check schedule for complete public skating session schedules.
Dec. 13-14: Festival of Lights Holiday Ice Skating Exhibition
Skaters of all ages and levels perform in the annual Festival of Lights Holiday Exhibition at Jordan Valley Ice Park. Two shows: Friday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 14, 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and available in advance at Jordan Valley Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway.
Dec. 13: Handmade Wreath Workshop
Create your own holiday wreath with fresh greenery and dried natural ornaments from the garden. Classes limited to 12. Friday, Dec. 13, 2-4 p.m. at Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Register by Dec. 11 at 891-1515. $30/item, ages 12 and up only.
Dec. 14: School’s Out: Holiday Crafts
Join us in making nature-themed holiday crafts. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday, Dec. 14, 12-3 p.m. at Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. $5/item.
Dec. 14: Topiary Trees and Swags Workshop
Create tabletop tree or swags for tables, mantles or door hangings, using an oasis form with fresh greenery and dried natural ornaments from the garden. Classes limited to 12. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2-4 p.m. at Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Register by Dec. 12 at 891-1515. $30/item, ages 12 and up only.
Dec. 20, 23, 27, 30, 31, Jan. 2, 3 SPARC Winter Break Camp
Kids ages 5-12 spend Winter Break with SPARC at David Harrison Elementary School. Each day has themed activities, field trips, games and crafts, like bowling, skating and bounce houses. Bring lunch, water bottle, socks and tennis shoes. Register by Dec. 13 for $20/day, or after Dec. 13 for $30/day.
Throughout December: Festival of Lights display at Jordan Valley Park
Enjoy nightly holiday light displays at Jordan Valley Park, with lights timed to music. Free admission for all ages. Lights run 5:30-11 p.m. through Dec. 31 at Jordan Valley Park, 635 E Trafficway.
Throughout December: Holiday Train Garden Display at the Botanical Center
The magic of miniature landscapes and moving train models transforms the Botanical Center into a holiday wonderland for all ages. Presented by the Ozarks Garden Railway Society, the display is open Mon.-Sat., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free, donations are appreciated.
