If viewing Christmas lights is a big part of your holiday celebration, the Bagwell Lights are back for 2019.
The lights, located at 2008 East Cambridge Street in Springfield, is a labor of love by Mike Bagwell and his family. The display, which features over 150,000 lights, includes a brand new “mega tree” that’s 21 feet tall.
This year’s show promises to have multiple changes from previous years and Bagwell said on social media that he will be adding new items daily until the week of Christmas.
“Our fingers are sore from pushing all those pixels into the plastic props and mega tree plastic strips,” Mike Bagwell said on social media. “We build all the gear to support and hang all the props and devices in our display. This is my hobby and I want to create and bring Joy and Happiness to others.”
The display is still synchronized to music; this season launches with “The Greatest Show” from the movie The Greatest Showman and “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. Visitors can hear the music as they view the display by tuning their car radios to 105.5 FM.
The lights will be on display:
Weeknights: 5 to 10:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 5 to 11 p.m.
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve: 5 p.m. to midnight
There is no admission fee to view the lights, although the family does accept donations to help offset the increased electric bill, the cost of repairs, and to collect and mulch leaves from neighbor’s yards. (The latter is the family’s way of thanking neighbors for the increased traffic in the neighborhood through December.)
