by MSU Athletics

Missouri State volleyball players Laynie Dake and Brooklyn Cink collected postseason all-Missouri Valley Conference honors Thursday, it was announced at the league’s annual pre-tournament awards ceremony.

Dake earned second-team honors in a vote of the league’s coaches, while Cink landed a spot on the all-Freshman Team.

Dake started all 32 MSU matches this season and played in every set, becoming the first middle since 2009 to lead the Bears in kills with 300 on the season. The Mount Vernon, Mo., native finished the year with averages of 0.89 blocks and 0.58 digs per set, led the Bears in kills 10 times with 16 double-figure matches, and had 15 matches with at least four blocks. A fourth-year junior, Dake concluded her volleyball career this fall and will graduate in May.

An outside hitter from Manhattan, Kan., Cink made her season debut in the second match of the MVC schedule and proceeded to pile up 144 kills and 46 blocks in 17 matches. Cink averaged 2.32 kills per set on .195 hitting, and her 0.74 blocking average ranked third on the team. She had five matches with 10 or more kills and six matches with four-plus blocks, tallying 28 kills and 11 blocks in a big weekend sweep of Illinois State and Bradley in October.
