The Drury Lady Panthers held onto their position as the number one ranked team in NCAA-II after the results of this week’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll. Drury is 4-0 and has been idle since their Nov. 11 win over Minnesota-Duluth, 80-68. The Lady Panthers have owned the number one position in the national poll since the preseason rankings were released on Oct. 31.
Drury received 13 first-place votes this week while Lubbock Christian (4-0), the defending national champions, is ranked second after receiving 10 first-place votes. Grand Valley State (3-0) is ranked third, Azuza Pacific (4-0) is fourth with one first-place vote, and Fort Hays State (4-0) is ranked fifth.
Three teams in the Midwest Region are ranked in the top six. In addition to Drury at number one and Grand Valley State at number three, Ashland (3-0) is ranked sixth.
This week marks the 98th week in a row the Lady Panthers have been in the top 25, the longest such streak in the nation, and it is their 36th straight week in the top 10.
Drury returns to action on Friday against Central Missouri at 5:30 pm at the O’Reilly Family Event Center as part of the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic. Admission is FREE to that game as well as all four games hosted on Friday at the O’ as part of Drury’s Black Friday promotion.
