If you missed the early registration fort the 25th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board has announced you can still register for the event up to and including the day of the event.
The Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning in downtown Springfield.
The Park Board says registration is open Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on race day from 6 to 7:15 a.m. at the Springfield Expo Center, 635 East St. Louis Street in Springfield.
Cost to register is $30 for adults, $25 for kids and includes a long-sleeve t-shirt bearing the logo of the 25th anniversary Turkey Trot, a race bib, and a timing device. Participants who already registered can pick up their packets during late registration times.
There are four race categories:
- Elite– Participants have completed a sanctioned 5K in the last 18 months within at least 24 minutes for females, 21 minutes for males. For safety, no dogs or strollers are allowed in this category. Elite starts first.
- Runner– Participants will run or jog a 5K at a consistent pace without walking breaks. For safety, no dogs or strollers are allowed in this category. Runners start second, about a 90 seconds after the Elite start.
- Walker/Family– Ideal for groups, families with strollers or small children, or anyone wishing to walk all or part of the route. Walker/Family starts third.
- Dog– Participants running, jogging or walking with dogs. Strollers and groups are also allowed in this category. Dogs must be on a leash. Please pick up after your dog. Pet Category starts last.
The event’s proceeds benefit the Springfield-Greene County Park Board Youth Scholarship Fund and the Developmental Center of the Ozarks.
There is also a food drive taking place for the Ozarks Food Harvest. Over 9,000 pounds of food were collected for OFH during the 2018 event.
