The head of the Springfield Regional Arts Council has been chosen to lead two statewide arts organizations.
Leslie Forrester has been elected Board President for both the Missouri Citizens for the Arts and the Missouri Association of Community Arts Agencies.
“Increased funding for the Missouri Arts Council translates to increased grant awards to arts organizations and projects throughout the state, including the Springfield Regional Arts Council and many others locally,” Forrester said in a statement. “I will be working with MCA’s lobbyist, Kyna Iman, to coordinate with all of the Cultural Partners to work toward increased funding for fiscal year 2021 from the Non-Resident Athletes and Entertainers Tax.”
Forrester has been part of Missouri Citizens for the Arts for four years, and her term as president ends June 30, 2020. She has been with MACAA for six years, and her term as their president will end on November 1, 2020.
Forrester says her efforts will help better the arts scene in the Springfield area.
“Springfield is doing great things in southwest Missouri, but we should be engaging statewide to support the broader goal of building a place where the arts can thrive,” Forrester said in the statement. “We’ve learned lessons here that can be applied in other communities, but we still have a lot to learn from other places to implement here. Another community’s project can inspire new, bold ideas for Springfield.”
