Sex Offenders Accused in Sexual Abuse of Six-Year-Old Springfield Girl

Two sex offenders are facing charges connected to the repeated sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl.

James Harper, 38, and Shawn Martin, 40, are both accused of abusing the girl repeatedly over a period of months.

The girl was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center in early October where she described to investigators the abuse by both men.

According to court documents, investigators then interviewed both men who admitted to their abuse of the girl after being read their Miranda rights.

Harper was interviewed at the Christian County Jail, where he is being held in connection with accusations of abusing another child. Harper said the two men were cellmates together and that after both were released from prison allowed Martin to spend four days at Martin’s residence where the abuse took place.

Martin told police that he abused the girl because he knew the girl did not report Harper’s abuse.

Both Martin and Harper have previous convictions for sexual abuse of children and have been registered sex offenders.

Harper has yet to be charged by Greene County Prosecutors; Martin is facing four counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy of a person less than 12 years of age; one count of 1st degree statutory rape or attempted statutory rape of a person less than 12 years of age; one count of enticement or attempted enticement of a child, actor 21 years of age or older and child less than 15 years of age.
