Arsonist Burns Warehouse of Homeless Charity

An arsonist targeted a local charity that helps the homeless, causing the destruction of everything inside the building.

The arsonist struck the warehouse of The Kitchen, Inc. on November 2nd. They broke into the warehouse, destroyed objects all over the building, sprayed donations with fire extinguishers and then set the building on fire.

While the fire only burned in the front part of the building, the resulting smoke and water damage ruined all the donations being stored in the facility, causing over $100,000 in damages.

The organization was preparing to help families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. They are in desperate need of items to replace those that were callously destroyed by the arsonist. Items destroyed ranged from twin-bed mattresses to silverware and food.

Local businesses have already stepped up to help, including Springfield Little Theatre which donated bags of clothing.

If you wish to donate, the Kitchen as released a “wish list” of items:

If you would like to make a donation, contact The Kitchen at 417-837-1500 or stop at their offices at 1630 North Jefferson Street in Springfield.

The Springfield Police and Fire Departments are asking anyone with information about the arson to contact them.
