The area’s cold weather shelters are opening up for a second straight night to help those who are in need of a warm place to escape the bitter cold.
Grace United Methodist Church will open to homeless women 18 years of age or older. The shelter opens at 9 p.m. but individuals can line up starting at 8:45 p.m. The church is located at 600 South Jefferson Avenue in Springfield.

East Sunshine Church of Christ will be open for homeless men 18 years of age or older. The shelter will open at 8:30 p.m.. The church is located at 3721 East Sunshine Street in Springfield.
Connecting Grounds church, 1109 East Commercial Street in Springfield, which opened at 4 p.m. on Monday for anyone to escape the cold, is open against Tuesday night despite hosting a number of church related activities. Staff said they would find a way to make sure everyone who needed to get warm would be able to have a place to warm themselves.
Those waiting at Connecting Grounds will then have opportunities for transportation to one of the cold weather shelters.
City Utilities busses will provide free transportation to the shelters for anyone who needs shelter services from 7 to 11 p.m..
