Nixa’s volleyball team is chasing a state championship this weekend.
The 34-4 team captured their first District title in nine years, with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-17 semi-finals win over eight-time defending champion Ozark. It was the first district loss for Ozark since 2008. They swept Kickapoo for the District title to move into the Final Four for the first time in 20 years.
The team enters the weekend competition riding a 21 match winning streak. The team won several tournaments throughout the season, including the Blue Springs South Tournament for the first time. They also won the Springfield Classic and the Ozark Grand Slam Tournament.
Team members Lexie Gregory, Sydney Golden, and Jordan Collard were named All-Class 4 District 10 First Team, with Kenzie Hines and Taylor Golmen earned second team honors.
The weekend tournament begins with a three-match day on Friday for the semifinals. Four teams play each other in a round-robin format to determine their placement in the championship rounds. Nixa plays Francis Howell Central at 3 p.m., Lafayette Wildwood at 5 p.m. and Liberty at 7 p.m..
