The Lincoln Memorial Cemetery is marking its 100th anniversary with a rededication ceremony this Saturday at 11 a.m..
The Lincoln Memorial Cemetery Executive Board will be dedicating a new marker and celebrate the completion of a new fence for the cemetery.
The cemetery at Chestnut Expressway and Barnes Avenue, is the burial site of some of the community’s oldest African American families. More than 1,200 are resting there, with some gravestones showing birth dates dating before the Civil War.
The cemetery is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization funded through donations.
