Brookline Fire Chief Convicted of Rape, Sodomy

The head of the Brookline Fire District has been convicted of four felony sex crimes.

Larry McConnell, 70, was found guilty Friday morning on three counts of Statutory Sodomy and one count of Second-Degree Rape.

McConnell went on trial before Judge Calvin Holden who issued his ruling on Friday that the evidence proved McConnell was guilty on all charges.

The victim testified during the hearing that McConnell would abuse her on Wednesday nights when his wife was at church, and raped her after she turned 17. The victim had been a volunteer fire cadet under McConnell’s leadership.

McConnell was indicted by a grand jury in June 2018, and Assistant Chief Ken Wilson temporarily took over the department during McConnell’s trial. Judge Holden’s ruling bars McConnell from returning to his position as chief.

McConnell will be sentenced on January 24. He faces seven years in prison on each charge.
