Nixa Junior High Entered “Secure Mode” Monday Because of Nearby Incident

Officials at Nixa Junior High School placed the building into “secure mode” on Monday because of a nearby incident involving the Nixa Police Department.

A resident reported to police that their residence at 709 North Hillcrest was entered by a stranger who then fled on foot. Nixa police immediately began a search to find the person who entered the home although they stated they believed no one is in danger and no weapons were presented in the incident.

Nixa Public Schools Resource Officers, who monitor Nixa Police radio traffic, made recommendations to Nixa Public School officials, who chose to put the Junior High into “secure mode.” When a school is in secure mode, the school continues to operate as normal with all classes but no one is permitted to enter or exit the building.

Nixa Public Schools said in a release that all decisions regarding the status of the schools are made by administrators of the school district.
