Driver Facing Drug Charges After Police Chase

Update: Greene County Sheriff’s officials confirm that a large amount of methamphetamine was thrown from the vehicle during the chase and is now in the possession of law enforcement.

The chase began after Deputies tried to stop the vehicle at the request of Springfield detectives who were investigating a drug operation.

When the vehicle entered the city and began driving in the opposite lanes of traffic on Chestnut, the StarChase tracking system was deployed and officers backed off the pursuit.

A chase through north Springfield has one person in custody and another on the run.

Greene County Deputies attempted to pull over a Chevrolet Silverado on Interstate 44 west of Springfield, leading to a pursuit that ended up inside the city limits.

The vehicle topped 100 m.p.h. as it traveled on Chestnut Expressway in an attempt to get away from Greene County Deputies and Springfield Police officers.

The vehicle stopped after a successful deployment of spike strips and the two vehicle occupants fled near the 1300 block of East Evergreen Street near Fremont. The driver was taken into custody, the passenger is still at large.
