Missouri State University has given honors to two members of the Missouri Legislature that helped bring an addition 10 million dollars to the University from the state.
The MSU Board of Governors voted to give the 2019 Government Excellence Award to State Senator Lincoln Hough and Missouri Speaker of the House Elijah Haahr. The Board gave the duo the award because of their leadership in obtaining the additional 10 million for the University’s core funding.
“Without the tremendous leadership of Sen. Hough and Rep. Haahr, Missouri State would not have received the $10 million equity increase,” said Missouri State President Clif Smart. “This support is vital to our ability to expand our programs and build a strong workforce.”
Hough led the charge for an $18.9 million funding package in 2015 that allowed Missouri State to renovate facilities on both the Springfield and West Plains campuses.
Haahr is the first Springfieldian to be the speaker of the Missouri House. He made funding for Missouri State and other schools in Southwest Missouri a priority.
MSU’s president and administrative council recommend recipients for the award and reviews are made by the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, and Student Government Association prior to the Board of Governors considering any nominations.
