Hillcrest High Journalists Earn National Finalist Honors

The student-led journalism program is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Seven student journalists were nominated for their reporting in three different categories.

Maddy Carson and Samson Cochran were nominated as a finalist for Best News Story for their report “Two Wheels, Big Hearts”, focusing on area motorcyclists who gather toys for needy children at Christmas:

Sarah Hale, Madison Edmondson, and Gabby Deckard were named finalists in the Sports Story category for their report “For Coach Atch.” The story reported on the impact the death of a popular assistant baseball coach at Willard High School had on the area.

Trevor Roy and Brenden Weaver received a finalist nomination in the Commentary category for their “Sports Rant” about increased use of instant replay in sports.
