A event connected to the Forward SGF comprehensive planning process will be held tonight at the Springfield Art Museum featuring Mick Cornett, the only person ever elected mayor of Oklahoma City four times.
Cornett, author of The Great American City, will be sharing “insights on how Springfieldians can shape the future of the city with the Forward SGF comprehensive planning process”, according to a city release.
“I believe that mid-sized metros like Springfield are the next dynamic and inventive urban centers of the future,” Cornett stated in the release. “Cities just like Springfield are going to lead the United States in the years to come.”
The event at the Art Museum will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Hors d’oeuvres in the museum lobby with Cornett beginning his talk at 7 p.m.. There will be a question and answer session following Cornett’s address.
The event is free and open to the public with child care being provided by Community Partnership of the Ozarks. The event will also be streamed live on Facebook and Livestream.
“A community-wide comprehensive planning process should create a vision for what kind of city and community we want Springfield to be and establishing a path to make that vision a reality,” Springfield Planning and Development Director Mary Lilly Smith said in a statement. “In addition to guiding public infrastructure and investment, the comprehensive plan answers questions such as, ’how do we focus our growth?’ and ’what public policies will help us get there?’”
