Voter Registration Deadline Today

If you want to vote in the November 9th special election and you have not already registered to vote, you need to make plans to get to the Greene County campus today.

Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller announced the deadline for registration to vote in the November 9 elections for Springfield and Walnut Grove is today, October 9, 2019.

The Walnut Grove R-5 School District is on the ballot after the failure of another levy measure in August. The new measure will, if approved, bring “the adjusted operating levy of the District is estimated to increase by $1.0700 from $3.8827, currently, to $4.9527 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for Tax Year 2020 and can be applied to the assessed valuation for each year thereafter through Tax Year 2040.

The city of Springfield’s two measures are for the transportation tax and the Police/Fire Pension:

Question 1 (Transportation Tax)

Shall the City of Springfield, Missouri, continue to impose a sales tax of one-eighth of one percent (1/8 cent) for transportation purposes to fund high-priority transportation improvements, with the tax to sunset in twenty years?

(Note: There will be no increase in the current sales tax level if the one-eighth of one percent transportation sales tax is continued.)


Question 2 (Police/Fire pension tax)

Shall the City of Springfield, Missouri, continue collecting the pension sales tax imposed at the rate of three-quarters of one percent (3/4-cent) for the sole purpose of providing revenues for the Springfield Police Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ pension system, with said tax to sunset upon the earlier of (A) five (5) years from the date of the commencement of collection of the renewed pension sales tax, or (B) the Pension System fund reaching a fully-funded (100%) status as determined by an independent actuarial study conducted for the pension system Board of Trustees?

(Note: There will be no increase in the current sales tax level if the three-quarters of one percent sales tax is continued.)

Anyone registering to vote needs to bring a valid ID (driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement) to the Historic Courthouse, 940 North Boonville, Room 113. You can also register at Springfield-Greene County Library locations or by sending a mail-in registration that is postmarked today.
