The students, parents, and faculty at Weller Elementary were giving rave reviews to a new playground that opened Friday September 13.
The playground was celebrated at a ribbon cutting ceremony that marked the two-year effort to raise funds for an inclusive playground at the school.
“It takes a village and the entire Weller community and Springfield community became involved in raising money for our dream playground,” Weller principal Dr. Rebecca Donaldson said. “Today, you are seeing our dream become a reality because of your generous giving.”
The fundraising featured many efforts by students to gain the money for the playground, including a third-grader named Sylvia, who donated her entire life’s savings of $120 to the cause.

Local businesses and non-profit organizations donated funds to the cause including the Musgrave Foundation, Conco Concrete, Riteway Concrete, PlayCore, GameTime, and Play 4 All.
“It’s everything I ever thought was fun in my entire life,” Weller first-grader Brentley Phillips said. “It’s awesome.”
