National touring comedian Carmen Morales is bringing her unique brand of observational humor to the Blue Room Comedy Club this Friday and Saturday, September 13 & 14.
Star of the hit podcast No Sir, I Don’t Like It, Morales has appeared on Sirius XM, Freeform, Hulu, HBO Latino, and IFC.
Morales, who described her upbringing as “bring raised in the middle of an argument”, brings a very honest, direct look at her family, friends, and people that she meets during her travels. She creates characters with a satirical edge that makes the audience laugh and think.
Morales cites Richard Pryor as an inspiration because of the fearless honesty that he presented in his stand-up routines.
“When you think about history, people who ran from the truth have always paid worse than those who confronted it. That’s what I loved about Richard Pryor — how honest he was,” Morales said in an interview with leoweekly.com. “Not just on stage, but in the stories themselves he’s being honest. He talks about doing dope in front of his grandmother and all of this other s—. And that was so amazing to me. I was raised by a crazy person, so I was being lied to all of the time … I felt like Richard Pryor was the first person to be honest with me.”
Morales is performing three shows this weekend at Blue Room Comedy Club, inside Billiards’ at 541 East St. Louis Street in Springfield. Friday’s show is at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday has two shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Shows are expected to sell out, so patrons are urged to get tickets online at the Blue Room Comedy Club’s website.
