Springfield Little Theatre is preparing to open their first big show of their 85th season, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and will be bringing someone to the stage who knows the show very well because they’ve performed it on Broadway.
Glenn Sneed, who has previously appeared in SLT productions including The Secret Garden, performed in Joseph on Broadway 25 years ago.
“It’s really incredible to think that 25 years later, I’m here at Springfield Little Theatre and they decide they’re going to open up the season with this show…it’s full circle!” Sneed said in a statement.
Sneed will be playing two roles in the production: Pharoah and also Mrs. Potiphar. He played Gad and Butler in the Broadway production along with being an understudy for three other roles.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a theatrical version of the Biblical story of Joseph and his family. The show, described as “high-energy with non-stop action” by SLT, will tell the story through different musical styles.
Springfield Little Theatre is also making some changes to the production, so people familiar with the show may notice some fresh ideas.
The play usually has one female narrator that takes the audience through the story but SLT is splitting the role between four women to match songs to the narrator’s individual personalities. The “Narrators”, Austen McGranahan, Kayla Buecker, Zoe Zelonky, and Mary Kim perform both individually and in a group, bringing a new dimension and depth to the traditional role.
Tickets are currently available for the show which opens Friday night at the Landers Theatre. Visit the SLT Box Office during business hours or visit SLT’s website.
