Springfield Cardinals Lose Final Game of 2019 Season, 11-6

The Springfield Cardinals weren’t able to end the season on a happy note, dropping a 11-6 decision to the Midland RockHounds in their final game of the 2019 season.

The RockHounds struck first in the top of the first inning. Chase Calabuig doubled to lead off the game, followed by a walk to Brallan Perez. Nate Mondou then singled to left to load the bases with no outs.

Taylor Motter then singled to center, scoring Calabuig. Tyler Ramirez then hit into a double play, but Perez was able to score, giving the RockHounds a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals then jumped to the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Conner Capel singled to lead off the game and advanced to second on a single by Julio Rodriguez. Capel then scored on a single by Zach Kirtley to cut the Midland lead to 2-1.

Kramer Robertson then reached first on an error by the shortstop. Rayder Ascanio made the RockHounds pay for the mistake with a home run into the RockHounds bullpen behind the left field wall. Cardinals 4 RockHounds 2.

The Cardinals tacked on another run in the bottom of the third inning. Conner Capel singled to center. Julio Rodriguez singled to center field, and while the shortstop was jogging to get the ball, Capel noticed the fielder’s lack of hustle and rounded second and went to third. He scored on a ground out by Juan Yepez. Cardinals 5 RockHounds 2.

RockHounds blew things open in the fifth inning when Collin Theroux singled, Mickey McDonald singled, then Chase Calabuig walked to load the bases. Nate Mondou walked to force in Theroux and cut the Cardinals lead to 5-3.

Taylor Motter then singled to score McDonald, 5-4 Cardinals.

Tyler Ramirez walked to score Calabuig. Game tied at 5.

Greg Deichmann singled to right field, scoring both Motter and Ramirez, giving the RockHounds the 7-5 advantage.

Collin Theroux then hit a home run to left field that went into the fence row of trees behind Hammons Field. RockHounds 10 Cardinals 5.

The Hounds added another in the top of the sixth. Chase Calabuig lead off the inning with a single, went to second on a single by Brallan Perez, and scored on a single by Tyler Ramirez. Midland 11 Springfield 5.

Leading off the bottom of the sixth, Julio Rodriguez hit his first Double A home run, cutting the Midland lead to 11-6.

The Cardinals weren’t able to generate any more offense giving Midland the win.

Winning pitcher was Wandisson Charles, 1-0 on the year. Losing pitcher for the Cardinals was Johan Oviedo who finishes 7-8.
