The roar of thousands of motorcycles will be descending on Springfield in summer of 2020.
The Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Wednesday that the 2020 “Wing Ding” will be coming to Springfield. “Wing Ding” is an annual convention of Honda Goldwing motorcycle owners that draws thousands of riders.
“The group in 2020 will be between 7,000 and 10,000 people,” CVB President Tracy Kimberlin said at a press conference. “The group is affluent, they ride very expensive motorcycles. The base price for these is around $20,000 and I don’t think anyone rides a base model Honda Goldwing.”
The convention will be focused around the University Plaza Hotel from June 30 to July 4. Springfield apparently was routinely at the top of the list for participants when they were surveyed about future locations for the event.
“We are very excited to return to the city of Springfield,” Gold Wing Road Riders Association founder Paul Hildebrand said in a statement. “With the great hospitality and venues in Springfield and the great riding opportunities in the surrounding areas, we’re very much looking forward to the long-awaited return.”
It’s likely the amount of cyclists attending the event will force the closure of St. Louis Street in the convention area because of the amount of parking that will be needed for the motorcycles.
