RockHounds Bite Cardinals, 6-1

The Midland RockHounds (32-29, 66-64) topped the Springfield Cardinals (28-33, 58-73) with a 6-1 win on Saturday evening.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-The Cardinals jumped ahead right out of the gates for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. SS Kramer Robertson led off the game with a walk, before scoring all the way from first base on an RBI double down the right field line from SS Rayder Ascanio.

-Midland, however, tilted the lead their direction with three runs in the bottom of the third. A single and two walks loaded the bases with no outs, before 2B Nate Mondou sent an RBI single to right field that led to a fielding error on CF Conner Capel, allowing a second run to score on the play. An RBI sac fly from DH Taylor Motter plated a third run later in the frame, making it 3-0.

-The ‘Hounds padded the lead with three more runs in the fourth on an RBI single by 1B Dan Gamache and a two-run base hit from LF Chase Calabuig, opening the advantage to 6-1.

NOTABLES:
-SS Kramer Robertson has led off each of the last three games by reaching base, starting the last two in Midland with walks after singling to open Thursday’s game in Frisco.

-SS Rayder Ascanio’s RBI double extended his hitting streak to eight games. He has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.

-LHP Jacob Patterson tossed 1.1 scoreless innings on Saturday, striking out all four batters that he retired with no hits allowed.
