Drury Men’s Soccer Picked 12th in Preseason Poll

by Ed Beach

The Drury men’s soccer team is picked to finish 12th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as the league announced the results of their preseason coaches’ poll on Wednesday.

Bellarmine received nine first place and 210 points in the poll and is picked to win the GLVC. Maryville received two first-place votes and is picked second while Indianapolis finished third in the voting. Last year’s regular season champion, Southern Indiana, received five first-place votes and finished fourth in the poll.

The Panthers were 2-13-3 and 2-9-2 in the GLVC last year with two losses coming in overtime, and six of their defeats decided by a single goal. Panthers head coach Ben Taylor enters his third season leading the program and will return sophomore forward Jamie O’Brien, an All-GLVC selection last year as a freshman, to this year’s team.

Drury opens the season at home on Sept. 6 against Northeastern State for a 4 p.m. game at Harrison Stadium in the Curry Sports Complex.
