Missouri State Women’s Soccer Picked Fourth in MVC

by Morganne Lander

The Missouri State women’s soccer program has been projected fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason coaches’ poll, announced by the league Thursday.

Loyola (62 points) garnered six first-place votes to nab the top spot. Drake (55) and Illinois State (49) split the remaining votes with one apiece to round out the MVC top three.

MSU (37) paced the remainder of the Valley to land in the fourth-place spot, ahead of Northern Iowa (33) who finished four points behind the Bears in fifth. Evansville (23), Valparaiso (15), and Indiana State (14) were slotted into the final three positions in the poll.

Last season, the Bears finished fifth in the MVC with a 2-3-2 conference mark. MSU returns eight starters, including Goalkeeper of the Year Kaitlin Maxwell and All-MVC first team selection Brittney Robinson.

Robinson is the lone Bear to land on the MVC Preseason All-Conference Team, proving to be a key defensive weapon heading into the 2019 season. She played 10 contests to full duration and scored the go-ahead goal in the Bears 1-0 victory over Big-12 member Kansas State.

Before the MVC season, the Bears compete in 10 non-conference matches beginning Friday, Aug. 23 at Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill.
