Geeks unite this weekend at the Springfield-Greene County Library Center for the 5th Annual LibraryCon.
The two-day event will celebrate “geek culture” with exhibits and presentations celebrating comic books, fantasy novels and movies, cosplay, and artistry. The event kicks off with a 7 p.m. Friday night concert from “Harry and the Potters,” a band that bases their stage persona and music after the Harry Potter novel series.
The bulk of the festival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Library Center on South Campbell. Hour long presentations and panels will take place throughout the day including “Geeky Storytime,” “Reimagining Classics,” “Writing for Publication,” and “Dr. Who Trivia.”
Several industry celebrities will be in attendance at the event including Springfield area resident Cullen Bunn, an award-winning writer of comics including Deadpool, Captain America, and Wolverine. He’s written for all of the major comic producers including Marvel and DC Comics.
Several local cosplay groups will be on hand in character to give kids the chance to “meet their heroes.” DC Unlimited Cosplay, Ghostbusters of the Ozarks, and more will be in attendance.
