Silver Dollar City Announces $27 Million Expansion

Silver Dollar City announced a $27 million expansion that will replace the Lost River ride with a new river raft ride and restaurant.

The new “Rivertown” area of the park will feature the “Mystic River Falls” ride and a BBQ restaurant called the “Rivertown Smokehouse.” The investment marks the largest one-year investment into the park in Silver Dollar City’s history.

The park is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020.

The Mystic River Falls ride is themed to the legend of Marvel Cave, which Silver Dollar City officials say was the catalyst for the park.

“Marvel Cave in Branson was among the most popular “show caves” in the 1950s and 60s,” Silver Dollar City said in a statement. “In fact, the Herschends started Silver Dollar City so tourists to Marvel Cave had something to do while waiting for their tours.”

The ride will cover a length of almost half a mile and should last more than five minutes. SDC says the ride’s drop of 4 1/2 stories is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.

The new ride is expected to debut in the summer of 2020.
