The Springfield Police and Fire Departments faced off at Meador Park in a softball matchup for the finale of the National Night Out 2019.
Community members brought out their kids to meet police officers and firefighters, check out their vehicles and equipment, and talk about the ways citizens, police, and fire can work to make the community safer.
After a brief shower lowered temperatures and raised humidity, the teams took the field where the police department used a 12-run second inning to cruise to a 22-8 win over the firefighters.
The winning team received a $5,000 donation from Academy Sports & Outdoors for the Springfield Police Foundation.
