The annual National Night Out bringing police and firefighters together with community organizations and citizens is taking place tonight, August 6, at Meador Park in Springfield beginning at 5 p.m..
The event will have free food, games, a dunk tank, music, tennis, and more activities for families. Police, fire and safety vehicles will be on site for kids to learn about and explore.
The big event of the night will be a softball game between the Springfield Police Department and the Springfield Fire Department. First pitch in this clash for bragging rights is scheduled for 7 p.m..
Professional eater Randy Santel, who has won over 750 food challenges in his career, will also be doing a demonstration.
Local charity organizations will also be on hand with displays and information about their organizations.
Admission to the event is free.
