The Springfield Lasers have added doubles specialist Robert Lindstedt to the team roster for the last four matches of the Lasers’ regular season of World TeamTennis.
Lindstedt debuts tonight in Philadelphia as the Lasers face the No. 1-seed Philadelphia Freedoms. Lindstedt, 42, from Stockholm, Sweden, has a career-high ranking of No. 3 in the world in 2013, and is currently ranked No. 81. He won his 22nd ATP doubles title at the Istanbul Open in 2018 (w/Dominic Inglot) and was a doubles finalist at the Geneva Open in May and a semifinalist at the New York Open in February.
Lindstedt replaces Jean-Julien Rojer, who was scheduled to play the first 10 matches of the regular season with the Lasers before returning to the tour, appearing this week in the Citi Open in Washington, DC.
Tonight is also the first match of the season for Olga Govortsova, returning to the team after becoming a fan favorite in 2014. Govorstova, 30, from Belarus, was dubbed “The Flying O,” by Lasers fans as she helping take the team to the 2014 WTT Finals. She has eight WTA Doubles titles and an additional nine ITF titles, including an ITF World Tour W100 doubles title at Midland, Mich., in February (w/Savinykh) and a W25 singles title in Darmstadt in June, the same month she appeared in the singles final in Stuttgart.
Govortsova replaces Anna Blinkova, who also returns to the tour this week to appear in the Citi Open.
