People Behind Fatal Crash Still At Large; Police Seek Help

The Springfield Police Department is asking for help in finding the people behind a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen box truck that left a Missouri State security official dead.

On July 18, a stolen Budget Rental box truck struck a vehicle being driven by Matthew Brown, 43, the campus security manager at Missouri State. The impact threw Brown’s vehicle into oncoming traffic where it was struck by another vehicle. Brown died from injuries in the crash while the box truck fled the scene.

The truck was also involved in an accident at National and Sunshine that injured another driver.

While police have recovered the box truck, they are still looking for people involved and say that they have photos of a vehicle involved in the box truck theft.

SPD is asking anyone who recognizes the 2005-2007 Ford Escape pictured above to call the department at 417-864-1810 or Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477. They believe the occupants of the vehicle are directly connected to the crime.

Also, the SPD is asking anyone who lives in the area of the accidents who may have had a webcam or other video camera that caught footage of the vehicles or incident to contact them with copies of that video.
