Missouri State volleyball standout Emily Butters has been given one of the most prestigious awards of the Missouri Valley Conference.
Butters is the recipient of the MVC’s Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award, given to one male and one female athlete each school year. The award honors athletes who show outstanding academic achievement, excellence in athletics, service to the community and others, and leadership.
Butters is Missouri State’s fifth winner of the award. Butters joins Jackie Stiles (2001), Katie Martin (2007), Heath Melugin (2012) and Lily Johnson (2018) as award winners.
“I’m extremely honored to receive such a prestigious award from the Missouri Valley Conference,” Butters told OI. “The time spent representing the MVC and Missouri State Volleyball as a student-athlete was a tremendous experience, and taught me the importance of being a well-rounded individual in my sport, my academics, and in my community.”
The award means Butters will be the Missouri Valley Conference’s nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.
Butters graduated in May with a 3.93 GPA majoring in exercise & movement science, emphasis in pre-professional physical therapy. She plans to attend the University of Texas Medical Branch.
