There’s a new commander for the Trojan army at Jarrett Middle School.
Dr. Kirk Slater has been named the new principal of Jarrett, effective July 1. Slater is currently assistant principal of Hillcrest High School and has been in that role for the last eleven years.
“My passion is to be a catalyst in creating a community of learners where every student and teacher has an opportunity to reach his or her potential and every stakeholder feels valued,” Dr. Slater said in a statement. “I have a genuine desire to invest in the lives of others, building coalitions and relationships that are key to the educational process.”
Prior to Hillcrest, Slater was a math teacher and coach at Glendale High School and Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Texas. He has degrees from Missouri State, Texas Tech, Evangel and Southwest Baptist University.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Slater to Jarrett Middle School,” Dr. Shane Dublin, executive director of secondary learning, said in a statement. “Dr. Slater has been an effective SPS administrator for more than a decade and his enthusiasm for embracing this new opportunity is evident. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of his leadership in support of our students, staff and school community.”
