The Springfield Cardinals picked up a win on “Bark in the Park” night, taking a bite out of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6-1.
The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Brian O’Keefe was able to reach first on a fielding error by Naturals third baseman Emmanuel Rivera. Chris Chinea then doubled to put runners at second and third, after which Conner Capel walked to load the bases.
Irving Lopez then hit a ball down the right field line that bounced over the fence for a ground rule double, scoring O’Keefe and Chinea, to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
The lead was extended to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chris Chinea hit his seventh home run of the year over the right field wall.
The Cardinals repeated that one-swing lead extension in the bottom of the sixth when Randy Arozarena hit his second home run of the season to lead off the inning. Cardinals 4 Naturals 0
The Naturals broke into the scoring column in the top of the seventh inning when Kort Peterson lead off the inning with his sixth home run of the year, cutting the Springfield lead to 4-1.
The Cards took the run back in the bottom of the seventh before adding on to the lead. Irving Lopez doubled and scored on a single to center by Kramer Robertson. Springfield 5 Naturals 1. Robertson scored on a wild pitch from Naturals hurler Walker Sheller. 6-1 Cards.
The Naturals put a runner on third in the ninth but couldn’t score any runs, and the Cardinals wrapped up the 6-1 win.
Winning pitcher was Williams Perez who went to 6-3 on the year. Losing pitcher for Northwest Arkansas was J.C. Cloney who fell to 1-1.
