The City of Nixa is giving away free weather radios to residents of the community who are elderly or have special needs.
The program, made possible by the Nixa Community Foundation, is for residents who do not have a weather radio, can’t afford to purchase a weather radio, or do not have a smartphone with an app to alert them to severe weather.
“We’re very excited to be able to offer this weather radio program to those who are less likely to have a cell phone app or other means of receiving weather alerts. This is especially important as we enter the peak of severe weather season,” Cindy Robbins, Assistant City Administrator, said in a statement. “The City of Nixa is extremely grateful to the Nixa Community Foundation for granting the funding necessary for this program.”
Radios are given out on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Nixa City Hall during normal business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..
The radios have been pre-programmed and have batteries installed so they are ready to use when they’re picked up. The city of Nixa has been working with the Nixa Senior Center and CCLinks to identify individuals who may benefit from the program. If you know someone who may benefit from the program, contact Nixa City Hall at 417-725-3785.
