Missouri State’s volleyball team embarks on an international trip to Europe later this week where the Bears will spend time in Italy and France from May 25-June 4.
While overseas, the Bears will have the opportunity to play several exhibition matches, and explore historic cities such as Rome, Florence, Milan, Venice and Paris.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our program,” said head coach Melissa Stokes, who enters her 24th season at Missouri State this fall with more than 500 career victories to rank second in Missouri Valley Conference history. “To have all the new incoming players join us will be an invaluable experience for all, not just from the ability to compete against talented teams, but to grow together as a group and learn from one another.”
The trip will be covered exclusively through MSU volleyball’s social media channels below:
Additionally, the team will take over the NCAA Volleyball Instagram account (@NCAAVolleyball) on May 27.
“I am so proud of our staff and team for the fundraising efforts to make this trip possible,” added Stokes. “Thank you to all of our parents, fans and donors for your support. I also want to thank our administrators Kyle Moats and Casey Hunt for allowing us to make this possible.”
NCAA rules permit Division I schools to participate in one out-of-season trip abroad every four years. Rules also allow players to experience a foreign tour just once during their intercollegiate careers.
Missouri State posted the program’s 20th consecutive winning record, both overall and in MVC play, in 2018, and returns 77 percent of total kills, 84 percent of assists, 66 percent of aces, 59 percent of the digs and 76 percent of the blocking from that squad.
