The Missouri State Lady Bears will begin their 2019 Preseason WNIT run at home on Friday, Nov. 8, when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 7 p.m. contest at JQH Arena.
The 26th annual Preseason WNIT bracket was announced Thursday by tournament officials, and includes a second-round matchup with either Boise State or Portland State on Nov. 10, with the third round scheduled for Nov. 14 against either Oklahoma, Prairie View A&M, UAB or South Alabama. Host schools are determined on a round-by-round basis.
All 16 teams in the event are guaranteed three games, and the two advancing to the championship round will play Nov. 17 on CBS Sports Network. The other half of the bracket includes Davidson, DePaul, Drexel, Miami (Ohio), Oregon State, Pacific, UC Irvine and UMKC.
Texas A&M-CC went 17-16 overall last season, 8-10 in Southland Conference play, and lost by one point in the Southland Tournament title game. The Lady Bears and Islanders have never played in women’s basketball.
Missouri State previously appeared in the Preseason WNIT field in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010.
The Lady Bears return 12 players from a 2018-19 squad that finished 25-10 overall and 16-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU won the MVC Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history after defeating DePaul and Iowa State in the Big Dance. The Lady Bears ended the year ranked 24th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll.
The remainder of MSU’s non-conference schedule will be completed at a later date, while the MVC slate is released in September.
