A bridge on Missouri Route 86 over Table Rock Lake that has been under weight restrictions due to problems with support structures will close on June 3 for at least 30 days.
Preparations for the bridge closure will begin on May 20, with the bridge being reduced to one lane traffic as crews install scaffolding for the repair work. MoDOT hopes to have the work done in time to open the bridge for July 4th festivities in the region.
The bridge closure will cause significant delays to those traveling from Branson to Blue Eye and communities the area. The posted detour will use Route 65, Route 465, Route 76 and Route 13, because MoDOT cannot use county roads for detouring purposes.
The detour could take up to an hour for travelers used to a 15 minute trip to Branson in the middle of the main tourist season. Businesses on the Blue Eye side of the bridge could see significant losses in tourist dollars.
Boats will still be able to go under the bridge but may have restrictions based on the work being done. A no wake zone will be in place throughout the construction work.
A long-term project to rehabilitate or replace the bridge could begin as early as 2022 with an estimated $36 million price tag. MoDOT will hold a public hearing on the possible options in late summer or early fall.
