Springfield Public Schools announced the departure of the district’s Chief Learning Officer.
Dr. Mike Dawson will leave SPS to become the Executive Director for Instruction in Branson Public Schools. Dawson had previously served as a principal in the Branson district.
“Mike has done an exceptional job serving the 25,000 students of Springfield Public Schools and he will be greatly missed,” Dr. John Jungmann, superintendent of SPS, said in a statement. “I know he will achieve success on behalf of the students of Branson Public Schools in his new leadership role. On behalf of the Board of Education and our 4,000 staff, I wish him the very best as he prepares for this new opportunity.”
Dawson has been the Chief Learning Officer for four years. He has also served in an administrative position for the Monett school district.
“Serving Springfield has been a great privilege and I’m proud of our work to deliver the strategic plan by expanding learning supports, focusing on equity issues, and most recently providing mental health services to students,” Dr. Dawson said in a statement. “I’ve worked with amazing, dedicated professionals who care deeply about students and Springfield Public Schools. I’m honored to call these teachers, leaders and support staff my friends.”
