Residents of Missouri who are looking to attend one of the U.S. service academies can now send application to Senator Roy Blunt for a formal nomination.

Nominations to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy are open.

“Service academies play a crucial role in preparing the next generation of young men and women with the skills they need to serve and protect our nation,” Blunt said in a statement. “These institutions develop leadership skills, fortify character, and offer unique opportunities for exceptional young Missourians who decide to pursue a career in our nation’s armed services.”

Qualifications for the nomination include being between 17 and 23 years of age, U.S. citizen, and a legal resident of Missouri. All applications are considered by a committee made up of Missouri residents and they will make recommendations to the Senator regarding which applicants should be formally nominated in January.

Criteria will include evidence of character and leadership, scholarship, and motivation.
