A Springfield area school’s efforts in fighting the poverty cycle will be highlighted on a PBS television series called “Our Kids: Narrowing the Opportunity Gap.”
The show featuring Springfield’s Robberson Community School will air on Monday, May 6, at 8 p.m. on PBS.
“The work of the Media Policy Center and, in particular, their focus surrounding Robert Putnam’s “Our Kids”, is vitally important as we consider the future health of our country,” Robberson Principal Dr. Kevin Huffman said in a promotional release for the show. “In reality, “Our Kids” are “Our Future.” Spotlighting initiatives around the country that are kid/family centered and offer real hope for bridging the opportunity gap that is growing in America, will certainly ignite important discourse and lay a path for hope and change.”
More than half the students in the Springfield Public School district receive free or reduced lunch, a measure of poverty in American schools.
