The Springfield based charity Care to Learn has named a new executive director.
Christian Mechlin was announced as the group’s new leader at a luncheon to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary by charity founder Doug Pitt.
Mechlin has a family connection to the job; his mother Morey served as the executive director from 2008 to 2015. Mechlin has also served as the community service coordinator at Robberson Elementary Community School.
The celebration included Missouri House minority leader Rep. Crystal Quade presenting founder Doug Pitt with a resolution from the House marking the organization’s anniversary.
Care to Learn has chapters in 34 Missouri schools. Unlike many other charities that collect items and store them in warehouses for distribution, Care to Learn works within school districts to supply needs for students.
Care to Learn focuses on “health, hunger & hygiene” issues for students. They have met over 950,000 needs since their founding a decade ago, serving over 98,000 students including over 55,000 on free or reduced lunch.
