Social Media Awareness Helps Find Taken Car in Unusual Incident

UPDATE (4/29 3:00 p.m.):

The vehicle was found thanks to someone who saw news of the theft on social media and contacted the restaurant. The man reportedly suffers from dementia and took the vehicle without even realizing that he had taken someone else’s car. He had walked in and tried to rent a room at the Vib hotel before the incident with The Wheelhouse restaurant but was turned down by the hotel.

The man was found at a nearby Walgreens after parking the car in the lot. Someone who had been alerted via social media saw the car and stayed with it until police arrived on scene.

The vehicle was returned to the owner, the man is back in care of his family and all involved thank those on social media who helped spread the word about the incident.

Springfield police and local business The Wheelhouse are asking for the public’s help after a man’s brazen theft of one of the business’s vehicles.

Staff from the Wheelhouse say the man in the photograph came into their business and sat at the end of their bar for a period of time before heading out the door and stealing one of their company vehicles.

The vehicle is a 1995 Silver/Grey Toyota Camry with a Wheelhouse bumper sticker on the back bumper.
