The Missouri State debate team has won the 2019 National Forensic Association National Championship at a competition at Santa Ana, California.
The team competed in the Lincoln-Douglas debate sweepstakes. The debate is a one-on-one policy debate based around a topic chosen by the National Forensic Association.
“The Holt Spicer Debate Forum has a long history of excellence,” Dr. Shawn Wahl, dean of the MSU College of Arts and Letters, said in a statement. “I am so proud of the students who have worked hard all year long; this national championship team sweepstakes brings tremendous external recognition to Missouri State University.”
Ten of the thirteen team members that competed in the sweepstakes made it to the elimination rounds. Out of those ten members, four of them finished in the top 10:
- Peyton Reeves, 5th place
- Zach Kaufmann, 7th place
- Kylee Evans, 8th place
- Mikayla Dickerson, 9th place
The combined scores of those competing are totaled to determine the national champion.
