Golf legend John Daly is competing in the Bass Pro Legends of Golf, taking place this week in Branson. He met with the press Wednesday.

Q. How’s the knee doing?

JOHN DALY: It ain’t doing very good, but I got my cart, which is good.

Q. If you didn’t have a cart, would you be able to play?

JOHN DALY: No, ain’t no way.

Q. How’s your game shaping up heading into this week?

JOHN DALY: It’s okay. I mean, I played decent last week. I hit it better than I scored and

that’s kind of what it’s been, but I feel like I’m putting pretty good.

Q. Do you lean on Michael a little bit, too?

JOHN DALY: Oh, yeah, oh, yeah. We’ll be leaning on each other a lot.

Q. How much do you enjoy playing this area? I know you’re not from far away from here and just the whole setup and situation here, how much do you enjoy this?

JOHN DALY: It’s great. It’s cool to play some kind of team event. Me and Michael, it’s our fourth year. We love it, we relish in it, and to be able to play a par 3 as beautiful as this, it’s just awesome. All the guys love it.

Q. And I know (inaudible) by the Folds of Honor up there and that’s one of your endorsements or whatever, but —

JOHN DALY: No, no, I’m just a wing man. I don’t get paid anything. What we do is we help the fallen and the wounded and we raise scholarship money for the kids. I think we did $21 million last year for the fallen soldiers or the wounded and we take care of the kids, make sure they get through school and have a nice, you know, good education.

Q. How much does that mean to you?

JOHN DALY: Everything. I mean, I do Boys and Girls Club, celebrating 28 years of that this year in my home of Dardanelle, but I’ve been with Folds for about three years and just love it.

Q. You said it’s your fourth year out here in this tournament?

JOHN DALY: Yeah.

Q. Where’s this weekend rank on the schedule? I mean, how much do you guysreally look forward to kind of the difference of this event?

JOHN DALY: Me and Mike, we always say this is our peaking week. So, you know, we’ve done okay. I think we finished like 5th last year, 7th and 11th. We’ve played good, we just haven’t quite gotten there yet and hopefully this year we will.

Q. Do you ever get used to the format? Changes a little bit every year.

JOHN DALY: Well, we changed golf courses a few times, but I think we’re pretty set. I’m excited to play the Ozark National, I haven’t played it yet. Heard a lot of good things about it. So it’s just a good, fun week. Everybody has a good time.

Q. And how much have the guys on the Tour noticed just how much this has really developed? I mean, everything around here the last five, seven years.

JOHN DALY: It’s amazing. Johnny, is there a golf course he doesn’t own in this area? But he’s so cool. He fixes them up, makes them nice, and people enjoy it. It’s a great experience to come up here and play. Even if you don’t play golf, you can just enjoy the scenery and Branson and go to some of the shows. It’s just a great town.

Q. I know when we bring celebrities in, Justin Timberlake, and a lot of people say, “Is there anybody that Johnny Morris doesn’t know?” Is that kind of a thing where nothing he does or anybody he brings in never surprises you?

JOHN DALY: No, it doesn’t surprise us at all, not at all. One of my best friends, Kid Rock, is coming back this week.

Q. I know your son’s gotten a lot of attention for playing in the Father-Son stuff. How old is he?

JOHN DALY: Fifteen. We moved him up to the 16- to 18-year-olds this year. Two weeks ago he shot 66, came back from eight shots and won. He had a tough one at Justin Thomas’ tournament this last week. They got rained out, just crazy weather like we had in Atlanta. But no, he loves it, he’s passionate about it and that’s all you can ask for.

Q. Is that God given, the talent, or work hard or combination of both or what?

JOHN DALY: It’s a combination of both, I think. His hands are better than mine, I can tell you that. The way he chips and putts is incredible.

Q. All Cardinals gear today. What do you think of the way they’ve been playing?

JOHN DALY: I love it, I love it. I’m so happy for them. Hopefully we can keep it going. But we’re Loudmouth, we have all the Major League Baseball teams and I’ve got to wear a lot of them, but the Cardinals are my favorite.

Q. Do you ever make it over to a game over there at Hammons Field here in town?

JOHN DALY: No. We never have time, we’re so busy here doing what we’ve got to do.

They’ve got the best double, triple — you know, it’s amazing. The Memphis Birds, that stadium is unbelievable as well. Just good, the Cardinals are great, love ’em.
