Springfield’s Give 5 program has received a statewide award as part of the Missouri Municipal League’s Local Government Week.
The program has been given the 2019 Innovation Award for the Extra- Large City Category.
“We are pleased and honored that the Missouri Municipal League has recognized the importance of civic engagement programs,” Mayor Ken McClure said in a statement. “Our community benefits from Give 5 graduates who are doing great things.”
The Give 5 program, described as a “civic matchmaking program”, is supported by the City of Springfield, United Way of the Ozarks, and the Greene County Senior Citizens’ Fund. The program has paired 140 participants with multiple volunteer opportunities in the city.
“The Give 5 program has been underway for more than one year and has been very successful in achieving our program goals,” Give 5 Executive Director Greg Burris said in a statement. “We are preparing to graduate our eighth class, and each of these objectives is being achieved to a greater degree as each class graduates and begins volunteering in our community.”
The next class for Give 5 starts May 16th and is free for Greene County residents age 60 or older. You can apply or gain more information on the Give 5 website.
