Hillcrest High School can wave the banner that they have the top teacher in the Springfield school district.
Courtney Dameron, a family and consumer sciences teacher, was named the 2019-2020 SPS Teacher of the Year at the annual Teacher Appreciation Banquet.
“I believe in engaging curriculum that benefits a student for their lifespan,” Dameron said in a statement. “My students succeed in my classes not just because of the strategies chosen, but because I do my best to create meaningful relationships with each and every single one of them. I respect them as the young adults they are.”
Dameron believes in using technology as a tool to engage students to bring out their highest potential. She began her career with SPS at Central but moved to Hillcrest four years ago to replace her mentor Jane Rasmussen.
Also awarded at the banquet held at the Oasis Hotel & Convention center were Tatiana Stout and Kirsten MacFarland of Hillcrest as Librarians of the Year, and the Malori McGee Rookie of the Year award went to Megan Schilly, teacher at Robberson Elementary.
