Drury Lady Panthers head coach Molly Miller announced the addition of Missouri University transfer Kelsey Winfrey to their 2019-20 signing class. The former two-time First Team All-State performer from Lebanon will enter Drury as a junior after playing two seasons with the Tigers.
Winfrey was a Miss Show-Me Basketball finalist in 2017 averaging 21.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 4.9 steals in her senior year for Lebanon and led the Yellowjackets to a 23-6 record that season. The 5-9 guard ended her career as Lebanon’s all-time leader in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. Winfrey scored 2,052 career points, grabbed 794 rebounds, had a total of 463 steals, and had 316 assists in her four years at Lebanon. She was also a career 52-percent shooter from the field.
“We are ecstatic to add Kelsey to our Lady Panther family,” said Drury head coach Molly Miller. “As a person and a student, she will fit in well with our current team and will, no doubt, compliment our great culture. She will add some instant offense to our returning team with her skill set and will fit our system on the defensive end with her athleticism and length. I look forward to coaching her these next two seasons.”
In addition to being a two-time All-State selection, Winfrey was a 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year finalist, a First Team All-Ozark Conference honoree four times, a four-time First Team All-District selection and she earned Academic All-Ozark conference honors in all four years of her high school career.
Winfrey also competed in cross country, track & field, and volleyball. She was also a placekicker for the football team and during her junior season, scored the first varsity point by a female in Lebanon football history. Winfrey graduated sixth in her class at Lebanon, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was president of the school’s chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
With the Missouri Tigers, Winfrey appeared in 15 games last year as a sophomore and 12 during her freshman season in 2017-18. She totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Mizzou. Earlier this year, Winfrey was named to the SEC All-Community Service Team, and last year earned a place on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Winfrey will join a 2019-20 signing class that includes 5-10 forward Alana Finley (Fair Grove HS, Fair Grove, Missouri), 5-11 forward Mia Henderson (Benton HS, St. Joseph, Missouri), 5-6 guard Sydney Benning (Mercy McAuley HS, Cincinnati, Ohio), and 6-2 center Hannah Morrell (Berryville HS, Berryville, Arkansas).
The Lady Panthers completed the 2018-19 season with a 35-1 record, advanced to the NCAA-II national semifinals, went undefeated in the regular season, won the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, won the NCAA-II Midwest Regional title, and ended the year ranked third in NCAA-II. Drury graduates one player from the 2018-19 roster and will return five starters and 11 letter winners.
